G-arm® Multiscan® mobile fluoroscopic imaging systems

Whale’s design laboratories, assisted by Swemac Orthopaedic in Sweden, have created the world’s first real-time multi-plane surgical imaging system. The Whale G-arm multi-plane digital imaging system will revolutionise orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

The Orca® 100A Multiscan G-arm system, with its unique digital platform incorporating our patented CrossBeam® technology, allows you to achieve live simultaneous AP and Lateral scans at high frame rates. Our unique digital platform allows pulse imaging for reduced dose and better image quality.

Designed for use in surgery involving femur, tibia, pelvic or foot fractures and for cervical spine surgery the Orca 100A allows the surgeon to achieve precision and workflow impossible with a standard C-arm.

Whale’s unique CrossBeam patented technology allows live views in both AP and lateral planes while maintaining image quality and providing fast frame rates.

Because the surgeon can see both frontal and lateral views simultaneously, the need to move and adjust the equipment – as is frequently required using a C-arm – is eliminated. This provides several unique advantages over a C-arm:

Greater procedural certainty
Reduced infection risk
Reduced procedure time
Greater procedural certainty

With the C-arm there is a tendency to minimise the number of switches between frontal and lateral views. Because DigiArc G-arm shows both views constantly live the surgeon can constantly check accuracy in both planes. This increases certainty in the accurate positioning of implants and reduces the likelihood of the procedure needing to be redone.

Reduced infection risk

Unlike a C-arm, there is no threat to the integrity of the sterile field through repositioning of the system to change between frontal and lateral views. This is always important in trauma surgery and particularly important in spinal surgery.

Reduced procedure time

By minimising repositioning the procedure can be carried out more efficiently, saving valuable theatre time and reducing the time the patient needs to be kept on the table. Minimising the procedure time also reduces the net radiation dose required.
